Lorde fans hit back at Westboro Baptist protest with sympathetic banner
COUNTER PROTESTORS STOLE Westboro Baptist Church’s thunder this weekend by publicly offering their condolences on the passing of founder Fred Phelps.
Westboro members were picketing a Lorde concert in Kansas City, Missouri when they came face to face with a group of people carrying a banner saying “sorry for your loss”.
The founder of the controversial American church group died of natural causes at the age of 84 last week.
Megan Coleman, one of the people who helped make the sign, told local news station KSHB that the sign wasn’t intended to antagonize the group.
Coleman said:
A second positive banner was also unfurled during the counter protest, which seemed to baffle the Westboro members.

Steve Drain, a long term member of the church, told KSHB that he didn’t even know what the protesters were saying.
In a statement released last week, the group accused the singer of carrying an “idolatrous attraction for worthless human royalty”, and suggested that she “spends her time, energy and talent serving herself a teaching other young people how to be indolent rebels”.
In a series of deleted tweets posted last week Lorde had said that her fans should respond to Westboro members in a positive manner.
